5 Signs You Need Professional Hot Tub Repair & Service

OUR HOT TUB BLOG

You’ve had a long hard day and you’re ready for a nice relaxing soak in your hot tub. But, when you get home, you discover it’s not working as it should. We understand that kind of disappointment.

That’s why we’re always here to help hot tub owners keep their spas in top condition with our professional hot tub repair services.

But how do you know if you need an expert’s touch or if you can fix your spa yourself? Let’s look at the top five indicators that your hot tub needs professional hot tub repair or maintenance.

Top 5 Signs Your Hot Tub Need Professional Hot Tub Repair & Service

  1. The water is discolored
  2. The water smells
  3. Your spa is leaking
  4. The temperature is inconsistent
  5. The jets aren’t working

Let’s take a look at each one of them…

1. The Water is Discolored

If your normally sparkling clean hot tub water has turned a funky shade of green, or worse, black, you likely have a contamination problem. Green water is an indicator that algae has taken over while black water is a sure sign that you have a build up of contaminants.

It could be that your water’s pH levels are off and that a routine chemical application of balancing, bromine and shock chemicals along with algaecide will solve the problem.

If the water doesn’t clear, it means your hot tub has a corrosion problem. This is an issue best dealt with by a professional.

2. The Water Smells

You know you have a problem if you can smell your hot tub before you can see it. If the water in your spa smells foul, it could be caused by contamination or poor water circulation. A clogged filter, drain or pump are also possibilities.

No matter what the cause, it’s important to call your local spa dealer for an assessment. A technician is best able to handle this type of problem and get you back to soaking in your tub in no time.

3. Your Spa is Leaking

If your water level seems to be ebbing without explanation, your hot tub may have a leak. Finding a crack or hole in your hot tub is no small feat, however. Water often splashes around your spa, and that can make finding the problem difficult, especially if there is a hairline crack or a leak on the inside.

This is not a problem you should let slide, even if the leak is a slow one. Over time, it will get worse and the cost of fixing it will likely be much higher.

If you think your spa is leaking, set up a hot tub repair appointment as soon as possible.

4. The Temperature is Inconsistent

Hot tubs are supposed to be, well…. hot. If yours is warm at best, or isn’t heating at all, it’s time to call in the professionals.

A heating problem is almost always caused by a malfunctioning control panel or heater. This is not a job for someone without hot tub knowledge. A big hot tub repair is always best left up to the experts.

5. The Jets Aren’t Working

If your spa jets have let you down, they likely need a helping hand. Whether they lack power or have stopped working altogether, it could be due to your water level. Before calling for a hot tub repair, check to be sure your water is high enough.

If it’s a bit low, the drain on the bottom of your spa may not be secured properly, allowing water to escape. If this isn’t the problem, check to see if any of the jets are clogged.

If there’s a minor clog, you may be able to fix that on your own. A more serious clog will likely require professional hot tub repair. Your technician could even find that the spa’s pump, its valves or its control panel were contributing to the problem.
